What if there was a way to reach large portions of your target market?
What if you knew of a free way to market yourself, your business, and your website? What if you had a way to drive lots of traffic to your website?
Would you consider adding something to your marketing arsenal if it did all that?
If you answered – Yes!- read on.
If you aren’t yet writing articles for your business, or haven’t considered this marketing tool, you are missing a great way to get your website, name, and business out there in the big world of the internet. It is really an important piece of the internet marketing puzzle.
3 Ways writing articles can benefit your business
1. When you submit articles to publishers or article directories, you’ll have the opportunity to get your name, and website out there to thousands of people interested in your subject matter. At the bottom of each article, you get to place your resource box, website and information about yourself. So if you write something useful, you’ll have a good chance of your readers either clicking through to your website, or subscribing to your newsletter.
2. You’ll get to reach your target market. The goal of marketing is to reach as many people as possible. This is a great way to do that. Say you have a website all about exotic fish and fishtanks. When you write an article about this subject, and submit it to some E-zines, people who are also interested in this topic and are doing research on it, may come across your article. Your article can even show up in the search engines! If you’ve provided great, useful content, you’re bound to get click-throughs to your website, blog, or subscribers to your newsletter.
3. You can establish yourself as an expert in your field. As you provide useful information on your topic, people will come to recognize you as a valuable resource. People will grow to trust you as someone knowledgeable. And people prefer to do business with people they know, like and trust.
So what next? How do you get started?
Well, start with your topic – the subject of your website. Your articles should correspond with the focus of your website. Since the idea of articles is to drive traffic to your website, it only makes since that you’d want visitors there who were interested in the topic of your website.
Write something that is useful for others interested in your subject. Provide value for your reader. Provide something different than what is already out there. If you have a topic lots of articles have already been written on, at least be creative in the way you present the information. Maybe think of a clever way to write about it. You’ll need to capture your audiences attention if you have a subject that there is already lots of information on.
Solve a problem. If you can answer a need, solve a problem, that’s even better. Think about what people are looking for in your market. What questions might they have? What problems are they experiencing? What do they want to know?
It is of extreme importance for a proficient writer of articles to write in such a way that the readers of the topic on which the writer is writing will be able to easily and rapidly understand. One must write in a manner in which one’s audience may read with modicum of effort and without the use of superfluous words and phrases.
Did you enjoy reading that paragraph? I certainly didn’t have fun writing it!
That brings us to our next point:
Be yourself. Put some of your personality into your writing. This is your chance to let your readers get to know you a bit. Write like you speak – unless you happen to speak like a text book. If you do, you’ll need to learn to write in a more down-to-earth, simple style. People like to read the way they speak. That’s in short bursts, not long drawn out sentences and paragraphs. There are some good books that will teach you how to do this if you need some guidance. Check out our Resources page for a list. Practice writing. Read other good writers. This will all help you develop your style.
Write simply – not like that paragraph above! Steer clear of jargon. If you must use a technical term, explain it briefly. Make your writing easy to understand.
Write with Substance. Provide your reader with valuable information. Don’t just put a lot of fluffy nothingness in your article. Your readers will not appreciate it, and won’t be motivated to click through to your website. You’ll need to write at least 500 words to 1000. Any more than that, and you might loose your reader. Less than 500 words ends up being more like a blog post than it does an article.
Learn to write for SEO. If you do, the search-engines will like you and your articles will show up in the searches! However, you’ll need to learn how to balance that out with pleasing your readers. Too much keyword placement in your article will be obvious and annoying.
An article is not a Sales Letter. This is not the time to pitch your product or business opportunity. People won’t care and won’t read your article if they suspect you are self-serving by trying to sell them your product or fabulous opportunity. That’s not to say you can’t discuss some wonderful aspect of your product or service. If you are selling nutritional supplements, you might write about a benefit of anti-oxidants, or how vitamin C helps support the immune system. Provide valuable information.
Use your Resources Box wisely. That’s the bit at the end of your article where you can say who you are, what you are about, supply your website link, or offer a newsletter. This is not the place to sell yourself or opportunity. This is not an advertisement. You are simply providing your reader with more info about you, and a way to contact you.
Keep writing. Don’t give up. This is not an over-night riches marketing technique. It takes some time to develop. You’ll need to keep on submitting articles. The more articles you get out there, the more opportunity there will be for people to find your articles- and you. Also, remember that the more you write the better you will get at it!
